Could this be just your type? Put a smile on your face with this retro typewriter!

Wouldn’t it be great if the good old typewriter could live on as a LEGO® product? This typewriter is a totally new idea and new category that would make a refreshing addition to the LEGO® range.

    1. History comes alive.

There is real educational value for children here, as this product presents all the main parts of the typewriter in a fun build. The accompanying booklet could present a brief history of the mechanical typewriter, and how much of its legacy lives on in the QWERTY keyboard and functions such as the Shift and Return keys.

It’s also small and funky enough as a great gift for both the young and the young at heart – imagine this typewriter on your office desk!

    2. Cool construction.

This is a perfect example of how LEGO® elements can pack so much detail in a product that can fit in the palm of your hand. At just 73 pieces this would not be a complex build, with its LEGO®-safe techniques, yet it would still be satisfying enough with some advanced SNOT (studs not on top) construction involved. See the cross-section view with colored bricks for an example. Also note fun details like the use of levers for the typebars!

    3. Production made easy.

The small model size means the potential cost is kept low. This design does not require any new LEGO® element molds. There would be no conflict with current LEGO® themes and licenses as this typewriter is a totally new idea.

This cool typewriter would work pretty well on its own, or it could be part of a series of palm-size LEGO® retro gadgets that could include a rotary telephone (pictured here), instant film camera (see www.bricksben.com/polaroid), vintage microphone, radio cassette player, gramophone, pager, computer, arcade game and a lot more.

Please vote for this retro typewriter! Thank you.

    Best wishes,
