Finally, a real Egypt set with real live Egyptians, and real Nubians too! A chance to tell authentic mythology, and break free from the "Archaeologists-as-Tomb-Raiders-versus-Mummies" trap! Lego loves to do an Egyptian set at least every four or five years, so by the time a couple more years go by, it will be time for us to revisit the Nile in epic style!
There are 10 pages in all... If you think that these set a standard for design quality that Lego should uphold, or if you just want to see the possibility of more full themes from Cuusoo, or heck, if you just think that these will make a nice profit for Lego that will help fund everybody's favorite themes and dreams, then please come and support them all!
Absolutely thanks again to everyone!! =D
And Keep on Building...!
THE CREATOR'S NOTES:
These sets have been in the making for 36 years now. In sum, this is the fruit of the input of over a hundred archaeologists, scientists, and historians from six continents, most of whom have 4-to-8-year-olds of their own now. And when they see this, all of them are all asking the exact same question... "Why hasn't Lego done this years ago?!"
I carefully designed this set to be right around the $120 to $130 mark for everything you see on the whole page, just like all the bigger castle sets and headquarters sets. I planned it within that limit so they could sell this on the shelf at any store in the world... but if you want, you can vote to make it bigger or smaller when you click to support!
You can see the Flickr slideshow
of hi-res images and concept art for the whole series.
This design comes with enough extra shields to equip 16 Egyptian auxiliaries, plus 8 Nubian or African troops with their iconic and accurate Zulu-style shields. We definitely need more Africans in Legoland.
Isis is the Egyptian goddess of the Nile, agricultural fertility, love and marriage, and so she is the close equivalent of the Greco-Roman goddess named Demeter, who was one of the most important twelve gods who dwelled on Mount Olympus.
Anubis is the Egyptian god who led departed souls on their journey into the Mythological Underworld. Despite his seemingly frightening appearance as a jackal, he was seen as a trustworthy and benevolent guide for those whose souls were pure and true.
All of the temples and all of the fortifications in this series can come apart into neat modular sections, based on an 8x8 grid... And so they can all be rearranged in multiple ways, they can all be expanded and redesigned easily, and they can all be connected together for maximum modular possibilities!
