    Architecture: Pyramids of Giza

    created by BeachBoy99 on 2013.10.30

    Main Section
Onto a totally different side of the Architecture range here: the Pyramids of Giza. The pyramids are located some 9km inland into the desert from the old town of Giza on the Nile, some 25km southwest of Cairo city centre.

The pyramids, which have historically loomed large as emblems of ancient Egypt in the Western imagination, were popularized in Hellenistic times, when the Great Pyramid was listed by Antipater of Sidon as one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It is by far the oldest of the ancient Wonders and the only one still in existence.

The total area of the model lies on a 32x32 baseplate meaning it would be somewhat large for Architecture style but after all there is 6 great structures included!

Standing at 65.5 metres (215 ft) high, the Pyramid of Menkaure is the smallest of the three main pyramids. It is surrounded by three smaller emblems that remain unknown to my knowledge.

Menkaure's Pyramid has a base of 103.4 metres (339 ft) wide, telling us how big it actually is for of the smallest structures.

The Pyramid of Khafre, also known as the Pyramid of Chephren, is the second-tallest and second-largest of the ancient pyramids and the tomb of the fourth-dynasty pharaoh Khafre (Chefren), who ruled from c. 2558 to 2532 BC.

It stands at 136.4 metres (448 ft) high and 215.25 metres (706 ft) wide in the hot desert between Menkaure and Giza.

The Great Pyramid of Giza (also known as the Pyramid of Khufu or the Pyramid of Cheops) is the oldest and largest of the three pyramids. Iti is the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the World, and the only one to remain intact. Egyptologists believe that the pyramid was built as a tomb for fourth dynasty Egyptian Pharoah Khufu (Cheops in Greek) over a 10 to-20 year period concluding around 2560 BCE.

Additional facts: the Great Pyramid was the tallest man-made structure in the world for over 3,800 years and is 146.5 metres (481 ft) high and 230.4 metres (756 ft) wide!
