    Gamma Corps

    created by matthewcopel on 2012.01.21

    Main Section
Future space energy relies on small nuclear reactors called ExoNukes. The word "Nenergy" is a contraction of "Nuclear Energy". The Gamma Corps deploys and repairs Nenergy stations, and assists spacegoing vessels with replacing and repairing their ExoNuke reactors as well. They have an assortment of tools at their disposal. First and foremost, a Geiger counter for detecting any leaks in the nuclear cores. Second, a nuclear reactor repair tool which can fix just about everything that could go wrong with an ExoNuke. Third, they always keep a screwdriver on hand for good measure. Most importantly, the Gamma Corps relies heavily on their esteemed ACT Suit for carrying heavy nuclear cores and ExoNuke station base units.

The Gamma Corps has a lot to do in order to keep the space citizens bustling about. Their technical proficiencies include replacing and repairing old shielded cooling rods, nuclear cores, and Nenergy charging station base units. Their carbon-fiber 15-ton supply trailer has an on-board computer, 8 ExoNuke mounts, 2 utility boxes, space for a charging station base and an ACT suit mount.

With the technical expertise, and industrial-strength equipment to get the job done, the Gamma Corps is prepared for any adventure, from assisting downed spaceships to responding to nuclear emergencies!

The core set consists of the Smithy tractor, 15-ton trailer (fully loaded), ACT Suit, one charging station and two Gamma Corps minifigs. 377 pieces.

Further additions are planned: i.e. buildings and spaceships that use ExoNuke technology, Gamma Corps HQ, as well as a Gamma Corps security team for hazardous zones and space bandits!

This project falls into the space theme and, educationally, touches on the issue of energy management. It is compatible with the following CUUSOO projects:

ExoNukes (nuclear cores) are heavy and require an ACT Suit to be carried. ACT (Assistive Cybernetic Technology) Suits are robust, single-operator machines used for heavy lifting and fighting stow-away aliens if one happens to board your ship. The hatch opens for entering and exiting the vehicle, and the utility arms can be climbed to mount and dismount the suit.

Happy space citizens charge their electric cars at Nenergy stations like this one. They rely on the Gamma Corps to keep their vehicles and intergalactic homes charged at life-sustaining capacity. Without electricity, their houses would go cold, their air recyclers would stop, and their suits would eventually run out of power and the minifigs would perish :(Here, you can see the anatomy of a Nenergy charging station. Red cables connect to cars and charge batteries to full capacity in minutes. The ExoNuke (nuclear core) sits inside of the charging station base (yellow). Two shielded cooling rods (translucent green) protrude from cooling rod ports on right. Charging stations have two terminals, one for diagnostics, the other for downloading media to iphones while you wait. The electric car depicted here could be sold as a separate set. The hatch opens upward and side doors open in reverse (commonly called suicide doors). The headlights can change the beam angle depending on the speed of travel and pitch of the vehicle to the road. It runs quietly, is clean and emits no exhaust. "Electric Car" set can be found at http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/8284.

The trailer can carry a lot of equipment and supplies, seen above. Connector pegs can be removed from mounting rack and stored in utility boxes in the back. The on-board computer can be access through a floor hatch in the front of the trailer. Tools are mounted on the sides of the Smithy tractor.Safety is a critical issue when it comes to nuclear reactors and a special onboard computer monitors all ExoNuke activity during transport. The wheel base can change grades and adjust to uneven terrain to prevent accidents. Shielded cooling rods are mounted internally for added protection during transport. A side flap beneath the ExoNuke mounts prevents debris from collecting on ExoNukes when going off road.
