Batmobile Tumbler Minifig Scale

created by BrentWaller on 2012.02.06

Main Section
One of the most recreated vehicles in LEGO, The Batmobile Tumbler from Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Design by Batman Begins Production Designer Nathan Crowley and Christopher Nolan.

This creation was originally created by myself in early 2008 using LEGO's Digital Designer software and later in MLCAD. While many have taken a shot at creating this before and after, I feel mine is the most accurate available while still being able to fit an official Batman minifigure inside.

While not perfect, I do believe with enough votes and LEGO's help I can create an even better version for mass production.

Custom instructions created in MLCAD are already available online:

Due to the lack of available pieces in the right colours, this camouflage version was painstakingly hand painted using vinyl dye. With LEGO's help I'm sure the same effect can be achieved by either smart use coloured pieces and/or printed pieces.

This creation fits an official Batman minifigure perfectly inside while still being able to close the roof piece.

LEGO Review Results for Batmobile Tumbler Minifig Scale

2013.10.23

First and foremost, congratulations to BrentWaller for reaching 10,000 supporters on LEGO CUUSOO, and toward everyone for all of the support of the Batmobile Tumbler Minifig Scale project! The results of the LEGO Review are in and you can see full details on the LEGO CUUSOO Blog.

Review Results for Batmobile Tumbler Minifig Scale
Our team has thoroughly considered the possibility of releasing this project as a LEGO set according to the criteria of the LEGO Review. Unfortunately the LEGO Review Board has decided that we will not produce this project as a set.

Thank you to BrentWaller for the passion and creativity that went into this project, and to all of you who voted so that we would have the opportunity to consider this as a potential LEGO set. We’re sorry to deliver this disappointing news.

How do we arrive at our decisions?
By gaining 10,000 supporters, a fan-submitted project moves from the Idea Stage to the Review Stage, where it earns the opportunity to be considered as a future LEGO® set in a quarterly process called the “LEGO Review.” Gaining 10,000 Supporters is just the first step in this process.

A "LEGO Review Board" composed of professional set designers, product managers, marketing representatives, and other key team members examine each qualified project. They build concept models and determine if the concept meets our high standards for what it takes to be a LEGO product; including factors such as playability, safety, and fit with the LEGO brand. Every potential LEGO product, including those developed internally, goes through a similar process and must meet the same standards.

The amount of time this takes varies due to all the factors involved. Unfortunately, this process sometimes means that well-conceived projects that gain just-as-passionate followings have to be turned down. Please note that the LEGO Review Board makes all final decisions on which new sets the LEGO Group will release based on CUUSOO projects.

Congrats on 10,000 Supporters, BrentWaller!

It's a black ... tank!

Again, very well done minifig-scale Tumbler, BrentWaller. We love how it fits a Batman minifigure inside.

Congratulations on achieving 10,000 supporters. We now officially advance this project to the Review phase.

What happens now?
This project moves from the Idea stage to the Review stage. A "LEGO Review Board" composed of designers, product managers, and other key team members will examine the idea. We'll build concept models and determine if the concept meets our high standards for what it takes to be a LEGO product. This includes factors such as playability, safety, and fit with the LEGO brand. Every potential LEGO product goes through a process like this and must meet the same standards.

The LEGO Review Begins in June
This project qualifies for the quarterly review beginning in June, which will also include all projects that reach 10,000 between now and June 3. For more information about the quarterly review process, see this blog post.

The review is a thorough process and from its start, and can take several months. When finished, we make a "go/no go" decision to develop and sell a product based on the Batman Tumbler Minifig Scale concept.

When the review is complete, we will inform you of our decision. If green-lit, this project goes into the longest phase of the project; the Development phase. During this time, LEGO model designers refine the product and develop it for release, we create the product materials (box, instructions, marketing), and get everything ready for a production run. This also takes several months.

We will post follow-up information and our decision here.

Congratulations on 5,000+ Supporters!

2013.01.02

Dear BrentWaller,

Congratulations on passing this milestone of 5,000 supporters on LEGO CUUSOO for the Batmobile Tumbler Minifig Scale! You're halfway there!

This project has been a long time coming, from your first design in 2008 to publishing it on LEGO  CUUSOO in February 2012, reaching 500 votes in March, and finally, here we are at 5,000 votes!

It’s clear from your pictures and description of the paint job on the camouflage tumbler that this project is near and dear to your heart.  Such determination and skill deserve praise!

Best wishes as you continue on your journey to achieving 10,000 supporters on LEGO CUUSOO.

Congratulatory message from LEGO for +500 votes

Congratulations on all of the support! Wow, we love your Batmobile. Great presentation and use of SNOT techniques. It's great that you built this to fit a minifig; that makes it all the more compelling as a potential product.

Please understand that this initial green light does not have an effect on the LEGO Review that will take place if the project reaches 10,000 supporters. Until then, we wish you the best of luck on your journey to 10,000 supporters!

Note: If your idea is selected, the LEGO Group will make the final decision on how your proposed product should be produced, the final design, applicable licenses, production run size, sales channels, etc. Please understand that our comments here do not have an effect on the LEGO Review that will take place if the project reaches 10,000 supporters.
